Island Avenue Elementary School is one of three elementary schools serving students grades K to 4. The principal isMore Kathy A. Nutley. PTO meetings are held in the school's multipurpose room. Times and dates are posted on the school website. Parents also are encouraged to become involved by helping out in the library.

Parents dropping off students should circle around the back and return to the front drop off point, making sure the child exits the car on the passenger side. To pick up in the afternoon, parents should park their cars and come inside the back of the school for the pick up line.

The Madison Public Schools Central Office runs the Madison Public Schools with oversight from the More href="http://patch.com/L-gC9N">Madison Public Schools Board of Education. There are six public schools and a preschool in the school system. Those schools include the following:

David Klein is the school superintendent. The schools serve about 3,000 students. The goal of the Madison Public Schools is to "to support students in achieving their highest educational and personal potential, to inspire in them an enduring love for learning, and to prepare them to be 21st Century citizens of the world who contribute to the diverse, multicultural and international communities in which they will live."

Kathleen H. Ryerson Elementary School

The Ryerson Elementary School of one of three elementary schools serving students Grades K to 4 in town. TheMore principal is Kelly K. Spooner. 

The Ryerson School PTO helps support many school activities including arts programs, field trips, computer hardware and software, and refreshments for school concerts and special events. Parents are encouraged to volunteer. Annual fundraisers include the annual membership drive, book fair, the fall gift-wrap sale and the Fun Fair. Meetings are monthly, usually the second Monday of the month, at 7:30pm. For more information, parents can read the PTO page on the school website.

The classroom teacher selects room parents on a lottery basis. Duties include helping in the classroom and with holiday parties, scheduling parent/teacher conferences, collecting PTO dues and attending PTO meetings and helping with the Fun Fair.

Our Lady of Mercy School is a Catholic elementary school serving students from pre-kindergarten through eighth grade.More Located on an estate-like setting on Long Island Sound, the school is sponsored by the St. Margaret Church parish in Madison and St. George Church parish in Guilford. Accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, OLM offers a traditional core curriculum, foreign languages, health education and training in technology.
