In 1900, Mary Eliza Scranton gave Madison a new library to honor her father, Erastus Clark Scranton. Occupying a central location downtown -- and in the hearts of many Madison residents -- the library has the latest bestsellers, old favorites, CDs and movies on its shelves. The library staff schedules bus trips to New York and other destinations, organizes programs for children and provides free passes to area museums. Art exhibits are often featured in the community areas downstairs from the main reading room.
