Madison Surf Club
Madison Beach and Recreation Department: 203-245-5623
The Surf Club, a 45-acre beach park on Long Island Sound, provides town and area residents with recreational options year-round. The beach is surrounded by volleyball and basketball courts, soccer/football fields with bleachers, a toddler playground, a playground for children 5 to 12 years old, a marsh trail and bocce courts. There are several picnic areas with grills, some in the shade and others on sunny Garvan Point next to a small beach reserved just for kayakers and sailors. Boat racks for the kayaks and sailboats are provided, as well.
A short walk from the back of the park leads to additional soccer fields, and this beach leads to West Wharf Beach. The downtown retail area is also within walking distance, as are Madison Beach Hotel and Dolly Madison Hotel and Restaurant. Dining options at the Surf Club include the popular Spash at the Surf Club run by Madison resident Paul Staley. Chef Paul, his sister, Diana Lynch, and her husband, Theodore Lynch, opened Splash in the spring of 2009 and it immediately became a hit with area residents.
Beach stickers are available from the Beach and Recreation Department. They are valid from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day and are good for all three town beaches including the Surf Club. Anyone with an assessed tax liability of $1,000 or more is eligible for a beach access sticker. Seasonal rates per vehicle are $10 for resident seniors age 60 and over and $40 for all other town residents. Passes for additional vehicles in the same household can be obtained for $20 per vehicle at the time of original sale only. The daily rate for a resident is $10 and $25 for a non-resident. For more information, visit the Madison Beach and Recreation website and click on "Beach Pass Form" under Forms. Daily passes are also sold at the Surf Club gate.
