Guilford will be celebrating Independence Day this weekend, on Saturday. The festivities start with a community picnic at 4 p.m. on Saturday on the town green. Then, there will be a band playing at the fairgrounds on Lover's Lane starting at 7 p.m. with fireworks scheduled to start at 9:25 p.m. For more information, and to read about who to thank for the fireworks, check out our earlier story.
It's a great weekend to learn more about Guilford. There will be a historical walking tour of the town at 11 and an architectural tour at 2 p.m.
Anyone who has seen Shoreline Soul probably has a favorite or two among the singers. Jillian Grey is a favorite for many. She'll be at Donahue's on Friday, along with the HotHouse Band, starting at 9:30 p.m. Donahue's is at 1320 Boston Post Road in Madison. Also on Saturday, The 40th annual Madison Antiques Show will be on the Madison Green from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. "The beautiful New England Green setting in Madison is just a brief stroll from the shops and in historic homes in Downtown Madison. The Madison Antiques Show, which is a project of the North Madison Congregational Church and benefits NMCC outreach projects, will be held rain or shine. Century Ride on Saturday: The Southern Connecticut Cycle Club and the Madison Jaycees are teaming up once again to bring you the 2013 Summer Breeze Century Ride for Autism. For more information, or to register online, please visit our website at www.SummerBreezeCentury.org . The ride will be held at Daniel Hand High School in Madison on Saturday July 13, 2013. On Saturday in Guilford, 18th century French and Italian Baroque music will be featured. "The period music ensemble, Nash Baroque, is pleased to offer two performances of Les Gouts Reunit or Styles Reunited, a program of lovely 18th century music of the French and Italian Baroque. Former Guilford resident and baroque flutist, Vicki Melin joins cellist Hannah Collins, period violinist, Daniel Lee, harpsichordist, Ruth Mckay, and guest soprano, Sarah Reed to form the Nash Baroque Ensemble, which is dedicated to performing chamber music of 18th century France and Italy. The program is named after Francois Couperin’s 1724 publication of works that artfully aimed to unify French and Italian musical styles of the period." Find out more by following this link.
