Dear Friends and Family,

As part of my recovery, and to raise awareness about the need for blood, which helped save my life, I have signed up for the Branford Road Race.  And I hope you will support me!

To sponsor me, please make an appointment to donate blood with the American Red Cross and then register that you made the appointment to donate blood in support of my walk.  The instructions are below.  This is important to me because blood was there for me when I needed it, thanks to blood donors.  I want to help make sure blood is available for others like me, when they may need blood.  This is a great time to donate blood because the American Red Cross needs blood donors during the summer months when blood donations tend to drop during this time of vacation and travel.

Thank you in advance for your support.  You can go to http://www.redcrossblood.org/ct , click on the icon with my photo, and follow the instructions which are also pasted below.  They must do step one and two for it to be completed

Thank you,

Colleen Kelly Alexander

Colleen Kelly Alexander of Clinton, Connecticut was an avid cyclist and had just completed a 600-mile bike tour of New England and New York when a fully loaded freight truck collided with Colleen on her bicycle in October, 2011.  The impact caused massive injuries.  Colleen was in a medically induced coma for 34 days and received 57 units of red blood cells, 8 units of platelets and 25 units of plasma.  During recovery, Colleen is undergoing multiple surgeries and is walking with the help of a cane and a walker.  Continuing to face challenges bravely, Colleen has signed up for the Branford Road Race on Sunday, June 17th, Father's Day.  Colleen is asking sponsors to donate blood with the American Red Cross, and register that they are donating to support Colleen. Instructions to make an appointment to donate in honor of Colleen are below.

Help ensure a stable blood supply this summer.  The summer months can mean a serious drop in blood donations due to schools out of session, summer travel, family outings and outdoor activities.  Please remember patients need blood every day.  One unit of blood can help save three lives.  Generous blood donors helped save Colleen's life.  Please support Colleen and make an appointment to donate blood today.
