Dear Patch readers,

On the third friday of September in every year since 1984, the families of men and women of MIA/POW have held a ceremony and candle light service.

This year, the event will be proclaimed by the state of Connecticut for Sept. 16. Madison will host a service at the Madison Green starting at 6:30 p.m. near the Flag Pole and Monuments.  There will be community leaders involved, clergy, music and military organizations as well.

It should run about a half hour and in the event of rain will be held at the American Legion Post #79 on Bradley Rd. in Madison.  We pray for a good turnout as these families remain hopefull for their loved ones to be accounted for.

Just recently two more Connecticut heros were accounted for and returned home from Viet Nam. There are still 27 unaccounted for.

God bless our troops and the USA.

Governor Dannel P. Malloy released the following statement on National POW/MIA Recognition Day, September 16, 2011:

“While we owe a debt of gratitude to all of the men and women who have served our nation, today we pay a special honor to those who, because of their service, have become prisoners of war or are missing in action in a country far from home. Prisoners of war and those who are missing in action leave behind loved ones and family members who can speak to their courage, fortitude and strength of character, even if they can’t speak to their whereabouts. While we rejoice each and every time our servicemen and women return home safely, today is a stark reminder that our work will continue until all of our military service members are home.”
