On Bee-ing Kind To Pollinators By Planting Natives and Creating Back Yard Habitats

From the Garden Club of Madison:

The Deacon Graves House was the scene of the Board of Directors Meeting of the Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. on Wed, July 17.  State President, Jacqueline Connell of Guilford, a member of the Garden Club of Madison, sought to introduce the  state board to the Graves House which she called, “a state treasure.”  The theme for her 2-year administration is “Bee Kind to Pollinators, Plant Natives, Create Backyard Habitats.”

After the business meeting, the board was treated to tours of the historic house by Madison’s Terry and Dianne Roberts and a talk on “Bees in America” by Madison resident Lois Nichols.  After a luncheon, Ms Roberts gave the board a tour of the gardens stressing the native plants.  The Deacon Graves House Gardens are maintained by the Garden Club of Madison as one of its 8 municipal projects.

The Federated Garden Clubs of Connecticut, Inc. is an educational, charitable non-profit organization made up of 7,053 individual members, 151 clubs and 15 affiliate organizations. It is one of thirteen charter members of the National Council of State Garden Clubs, Inc., now known as the National Garden Clubs, Inc., which was organized on May 1,1929, (two days after Connecticut's first meeting), and has had almost continuous representation on the National Board.
