Arctic Hero Award Goes To Madison Police Department! Rockin School House Award Goes To Salty Scoundrels From Daniel Hand High School!

Special Olympics Recognizes DHHS, Police Officer Joseph Race and Dispatcher Todd Nelson For Their Fundraising And Plunge Into The Sound; See Story Below For Full List Of Award Winners

The Madison Police Department has received the Arctic Hero Award from Special Olympics Connecticut for their fundraising efforts related to the this past weekend. And the Salty Scoundrels from Daniel Hand High School received the Rockin School House Award for their Penguin Plunge fundraising efforts.

Police Officer Joseph Race and Dispatcher Todd Nelson formed a team that raised more than $1,600 and the Salty Scoundrels raised more than $5,400. The event at Hammonasset Beach State Park, raised more than $71,000 for Special Olympics Connecticut.

Race and Nelson also were commended by the Madison Board of Selectmen at their meeting earlier this week. "They upheld the honor of Madison by partaking in this great fundraising event," said First Selectman Fillmore McPherson, saying he appreciated the efforts of everyone who participated. "I can't believe they'd do it, but it's all for a great cause."
