Exclusive Interview with Celebrity Stylist, Timothy Pamment

Part One of Three

What some may call unfamiliarity, Timothy calls destiny.  In 1987, Timothy Pamment of Yorkshire, England, jumped at an opportunity to work at a high-end salon in Greenwich.  While he believed he was going to be residing in Greenwich Village, New York City, the position actually was in Greenwich, Connecticut.  As they say, “The rest is history.”

Timothy Pamment is the proud owner of the Timothy Pamment Salon in Madison, Connecticut and at the Ocean House Resort in Rhode Island. He is also part-owner of Partner’s Salon in Greenwich, Connecticut.

Timothy and his wife, Donna, established their Madison salon in August of 2008.  Timothy envisioned an environment that had a feeling of a bustling boutique style salon.  Donna worked alongside a Manhattan firm in creating the salon’s sleek design concept.

The high volume boutique salon, with a staff of 15, serves thousands of clients per year.  The stylists are known for their talents in the industry and excellent customer service. Clients recognize that this fairly new salon has made great success and growth in the past three years.

“My very first job was as a paperboy at age 11.  This job taught me responsibility and punctuality.  Years later, I had the opportunity to apprentice with a hairdresser, which taught me the importance of teamwork and respect for others,” says Timothy.  These values have become the foundation of his company.

“Actually, I started in the beauty industry purely by accident.  I was enrolled in an art school for all of ten minutes,” says Timothy with a smile and laugh.  “I found myself surrounded by people who transformed objects into beautiful works of art, and this is what I found fascinating.”

Timothy has been apart of the beauty industry for 30 years.  He credits his continuing involvement in the industry on the constant rebirth of ideas.  To him, it is simply, “The greatest industry to be a part of.”

He quotes Oscar Wilde, “Fashion is a form of ugliness so intolerable that we have to alter it every six months.”

“Brilliant,” cheers Timothy.

Many of Timothy’s friends, family, and colleagues know him as a fashion guru.  He frequents the internet’s top fashion websites and reads blogs for all the latest news. Two of his favorite designers to follow are Alber Elbaz and Marc Jacobs.  Without any pause of thought, when asked which designer he hopes to someday work with, he says John Galliano.

His love for classical actors and actresses brought his memory back to Audrey Hepburn at her career peak in 1961.  “I would have adored the opportunity to work with someone as talented and glamorous as herself.”

“I had the amazing opportunity of working with the talented design teams of Zac Posen, Carlos Campos, and Juicy Couture to name a few,” says Timothy.  “Hands down, the 2010 Armani Couture show in Paris, 'Wow!'. Need I say more?  I had the opportunity to travel to Paris with the Oribe Team, and we could not have been more satisfied with the show results.”

You can see his excitement as he recalls the experience to himself, as if he is being transported back in time to Paris.

“You know, being a hairdresser is more than just working with hair; It becomes your life,” says Timothy.  This is a man who truly commits himself to his practice, and for that, we applaud his dedication.

When Timothy speaks of his salon, you can sense his gratification and eagerness.

On any given day, Timothy is kept busy in the salon as he paces back and forth working with various clients.  A proficient at multi-tasking, he also engages himself in conversations with his salon staff.  He compliments their work, offers bits of advice, and lends assistance if needed.

“I am surrounded by colleagues who are extremely creative.  I feed off their exuberant energy,” says Timothy. “I am inspired by those who are not afraid to create by pushing the boundaries and I work alongside colleagues who do just that.  I’m very lucky to be apart of this family and team we have created.”

“When we look for additional staff, an applicant’s passion and energy is what stands out most to me.  If they possess not only talent but passion to be part of a rapidly advancing team, they’re golden,” says Timothy with a nod of approval.

“If I could give an aspiring stylist any bit of advice, I would tell the person to take the initiative to seek out as much continuing education as possible.  Always push yourself to be greater.”
