Strong Cold Front Could Bring Strong To Severe Storms Saturday Afternoon, Evening

Air quality alert issued for Saturday. Be sure to check the latest forecast if you are headed out for an extended period of time.

 

The National Weather Service says "a strong cold front is expected to pass through Saturday evening. The potential exists for strong to severe thunderstorms to produce damaging winds and large hail late Saturday afternoon through Saturday night."

There also is an air quality alert in effect from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m Saturday.

"The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection has issued an air quality action day for ... Fairfield, Middlesex, New Haven and New London [counties]," the NWS says. "An air quality action day means that ground level ozone within the region may approach of exceed unhealthy standards especially for sensitive groups."

The forecast for Saturday is isolated showers and thunderstorms after 3 p.m. Keep in mind that the forecast can change, so always check in with the National Weather Service before heading out on your boat, or if you are going to spend an extended period of time outdoors in the woods or at the beach.   • Saturday: Isolated showers and thunderstorms after 3pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 89. West wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Saturday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. West wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Sunday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 60. North wind 5 to 7 mph.
  • Monday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 84.

  • Overnight: Patchy fog between 4am and 5am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southwest wind 3 to 5 mph.

  • Saturday Night: Scattered showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 5am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. West wind around 6 mph becoming north after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 40%.
  • Sunday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before noon. Partly sunny, with a high near 88. Light and variable wind becoming west 5 to 8 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 20%.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 59. Calm wind becoming northeast around 5 mph after midnight.
