Chatfield Hollow State Park Swimming Area Re-Opened

The DEEP announced Thursday morning that Chatfield Hollow State Park is now open for swimming, just in time for the weekend!

Chatfield Hollow State Park in nearby Killingworth has been closed to swimming for the last few weeks because of poor water quality that has been blamed on heavy rainfall.

The water was retested by the DEEP and "test results showed water quality there is suitable for swimming."

Water quality is tested weekly at state parks, starting Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day weekend, by DEEP to ensure that it is safe for swimming. Samples are collected by DEEP staff and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab. Local health departments are responsible for sampling municipal swimming areas. For information on closures of local swimming areas contact the local public health agency.
