Chatfield Hollow State Park Closed to Swimming

Several state parks, including Chatfield Hollow in nearby Killingworth, have been closed due to poor water quality after this week's storms that tore through the area.

According to the CT DEEP, Chatfield Hollow State Park in Killingworth, just over the border from North Madison, has been closed to swimming because of poor water quality due to heavy rainfall received recently.

The water will be retested by the DEEP this week. See the attached PDF for a complete list of closed swimming locations.

Water quality is tested weekly at state parks, starting Memorial Day weekend and continuing through Labor Day weekend, by DEEP to ensure that it is safe for swimming. Samples are collected by DEEP staff and are analyzed at the Department of Public Health Lab. Local health departments are responsible for sampling municipal swimming areas. For information on closures of local swimming areas contact the local public health agency.
