Senior Night has Arrived

Tonight at 7 the Senior Class of the Daniel Hand Tiger Football Team will walk on to Strong Field for their final (regular season) home game. They will face the Hamden Green Dragons.

Hamden has had a rough year and so far has only managed one win against Branford.  They have had close games against good teams though.  They lost to North Haven 28-25 and West Haven 32-31.  But they certainly didn’t catch any breaks from the scheduling committee when their final three opponents of the season are Xavier (56-7 loss last week), Hand and Notre Dame-WH.

The Tigers are in the home stretch of what is shaping up to be another undefeated season.  They will need to do that that if they want to play one more game at the Surf Club in round one of the playoffs.

Patch Player of the Week

With the Tigers up by three touchdowns early last week, Coach Filippone began pulling his starters from the game, so we got a chance to see some underclassmen in key roles.  Junior Matt Sullivan has been a key contributor all year on special teams with many exciting punt returns, but this week we also got to see him at quarterback where he rushed for 56 yards and one score.

Around the SCC

The SCC game of the week will be Xavier at West Haven at 7.  West Haven has two losses and is not completely out of the running for a Class LL playoff spot.  A third loss will definitely put them out, so this game will have a playoff feel to it.  They have also battled Xavier close in recent years.

Standings

The shake-up continued in week 8.  New Canaan was upset by Stamford. That will set up a interesting match-up for the New Canaan/Darien Thanksgiving game.  The loser will end their season right there.   Masuk moved up to number 4 with their impressive 49-3 win over Pomperaug, (the first team with a winning record on their schedule).

Here are the Class L Standings

  1. Windsor
  2. Daniel Hand
  3. Coventry/Windham Tech
  4. Masuk
  5. New London
  6. Bunnell
  7. New Canaan
  8. Darien

On the cusp:

 9.  North Haven                                                                                              10.  Notre Dame - WH

It certainly would be interesting if it ended this way, We would get to see Hand vs. New Canaan at the Surf Club for a first round game.  But there is still a lot of football to be played before that can happen.
