Madison's Kiley McKinnon In First Graduating Class Of USSA TEAM Academy

And now Kiley will be getting some pool time ... but not the way most people will be this summer.

This information was provided by Kiley McKinnon's family:

Madison's Kiley McKinnon, a member of the U.S. Ski Team and the 2013 "Rookie Of The Year," just graduated from the new U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association's USSA TEAM Academy. Kiley has already started classes at Westminster College in order to get through some credits before competition starts, since this is an Olympic year coming up!

Kiley will be getting some pool time this summer, but not the way most people might be this summer.

U.S. Ski Team members train into a pool all summer. They have to qualify all their new tricks for the upcoming season in the pool before they can try them on snow.  So, they train up to seven hours a day, including two ramping (or jumping) sessions a day along with conditioning, trampoline, weight training and video review.

In her spare time, Kiley is also a member of the Flying Ace All-Stars, an elite group of aerialists that perform shows for both private and public audiences at the Utah Olympic Park.

She happened to be performing in a show the evening of graduation. Here's the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_up-q2AghTQ. Watch and listen to the announcer congratulate her on her special day!

Here is some information about that from the USSA website about the graduation:

"The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association’s new USSA TEAM Academy celebrated its first year, graduating four seniors from the high school created for national development and elite team skiers and snowboarders. All of the graduating seniors, who hold a combined 4.15 GPA, have enrolled at Westminster College to continue their education. The graduation ceremony was held Saturday, June 1 at the USSA Center of Excellence in Park City, UT."

"Today is an historic moment for the USSA. We believe that academics and athletics enhance each other - they go hand in hand. We have to have the academic side. It's more than you learn in books," said Bill Marolt, USSA President and CEO. "USSA Team Academy has brought the best athletes here to Park City to be Best in the World. When you bring the best people together it raises the bar not just here but around the country."
