Beautiful morning brings out thousands for Madison Turkey Trot.

The 33rd Annual Madison Turkey Trot got off with a bang as the starting shot sounded early Thursday at Hammonasset Beach State Park.

This year's race broke a record with 2,700 pre-registered participants.

“The race gets bigger and bigger every year," said Madison Jaycees Board Member Andrew Bowler "We could be pushing 4,000 total participants both runners and walkers [this year].”

While volunteering Thursday morning Bowler said, “The Turkey Trot is our big fundraiser.  All the proceeds go back to the community, to the sports teams that volunteer during the race, and to dozens of other civic and charitable organizations.”  

Top finishers for the Turkey Trot 5 mile race were:  David Cotton at 25:38, Sean Nestor at 26:14, and Brendon Fish at 26:22.

Sponsors include SoundRunner and Julie Francis, the owner, who helped plan the race; Stop & Shop; Lenny & Joes; Mad About CrossFit; and The Source.

Friends & Company donated the Chowder, Red Hook Brewery donated the beer, Lberty Bank,  K & G Graphics in Branford donated the printing of 40,000 applications and Cohen’s Bagels provided the bagels & coffee.
