It's Berry Season at the Shore!

"Sound Bites" is a brand new look into the Madison Beach Hotel kitchen with Pastry Chef Emily Klug and Chef de Cuisine Brendan Dion. Here's the first in the series with Emily speaking to the fresh fruit offerings of the season.

This was originally posted on June 10, 2013.

There’s nothing quite like the feel of a freshly sharpened knife slicing cleanly through a freshly ripened strawberry. Or kiwi, or any soft fruit, for that matter! And there's nothing quite like the flavor you experience when these sweet softies come together. If you haven’t checked your calendar recently, it’s berry season!

Just in time, the Wharf Restaurant has some of the freshest, juiciest local strawberries I’ve tasted in a long time; probably because it  hasn’t been spring or summer in a long time! Also just in at the Wharf is the new Summer menu.  We’ve made some tweaks from the apps all the way down to dessert.

One dessert item I’m rather excited about is the strawberry-kiwi fruit “tartar.” Plated to look identical to Chef Brendan’s tuna tartar, my strawberry-kiwi fruit tartar is tossed with a little mint, and plated with a peanut butter sauce and chocolate chips - yum! And these aren’t your mom's chocolate chips - picture potato chips, remove the potato and add dark chocolate. Curious yet?  Point your cars to the Sound and stop in to the Wharf Restaurant at the Madison Beach Hotel for some refreshing local strawberries a la Strawberry-Kiwi Fruit “Tartar” featured now on our new Summer menu. So go ahead and indulge in our Raw Bar, a burger, and of course a scrumptious dessert while you’re here.

Pastry Chef, Madison Beach Hotel
