Tigers Will Try to Take it to the House

The Daniel Hand Football Team (1-0) will travel to New Haven today for an afternoon game against Hillhouse (1-0). The game is scheduled for 4pm at Bowen Field.

It’s been several years since these two former SCC Hammonasset Division foes have met in the regular season.  Their last meeting occurred in the 2005 Class M Final that was won by Hand 35-0.  Both teams come in to the game highly touted.  Hand is ranked  #3 and Hillhouse #7 in the New Haven Register poll.

The Tiger’s defense will have their hands full with a talented Hillhouse offensive attack led by running backs Andre Anderson and Harold Cooper.  Last week in their 55-34 win against Foran, the two combined for 327 yards rushing in first half.  Cooper carried the ball three times and had 131 yards and three touchdowns!  Now the Hand defense should be a littler sturdier than Foran’s, but they will need to play mistake free to contain these two dynamos.

Look for a good sized crowd at this one.  It will probably include the coaching staffs from Hand’s next 8 opponents.

Patch Players of the Week

Offense: Quarterback Brendan Bilcheck had a great debut against Amity running for two touchdowns and throwing for two more, but it was CALEB EWALD who provided the most offensive fireworks of the night.  He took two short passes and turned them into long touchdowns.  He also had two apparent touchdowns called back on penalties.

Defense:  Even though they may have looked a little clunky at times, the defense held Amity all night.  The Spartans only scored on a kickoff return and one late touchdown in the waning moments of the game long after the starters had been pulled. One defensive player showed up in almost every picture making tackles at critical times.  Who was that number 35?  ALEX TUCCERO

Around the SCC

Hey whaddyaknow?  East Haven is undefeated! Congratulations to Coach Volpe and the Yellowjackets for overcoming a 14 point deficit and defeating Lyman Hall 28-27.

The Xavier train keeps on rolling.  The Falcons blanked Notre Dame West Haven 44-0 for their 27th straight win.  Xavier has been ranked #1 since the start of the 2010 season.

For those of you who can’t get enough...  You can check out Cheshire at Branford on the way home (7pm) to get a scouting report on Hand’s next opponent, (Cheshire at the Surf Club September 28th at 7pm). Hmmm, Branford used to have the best concession stand in the state.  I wonder if they still serve that pasta fagioli?
