Original story:

Daniel Hand finished their regular season undefeated with a 34-13 win over Guilford on Thanksgiving Eve.  That win gave them the #1 seed for the playoffs.  Platt won 44-0 on Thanksgiving Day against cross-town rival Maloney in order to secure the last available playoff slot, #8 seed.  These two teams have never met officially, although for years they were annual pre-season scrimmage opponents.

Platt’s two losses included a 42-34 defeat by Northwest Catholic in the season opener, and a 48-8 drubbing by Rocky Hill in October.  Since then Platt has won their last six games convincingly. This includes a huge 34-14 win over Berlin (their only loss) on November 2nd.  Berlin had previously defeated both Northwest Catholic and Rocky Hill, so that’s a good indication that Platt has made great improvement during the year.

Platt has a potent offense led by senior running back Justin Potts, (6’1”-170).  According to MaxPreps he has over 2,100 all-purpose yards for the season and has scored 32 touchdowns.  He averages 167 yards rushing per game.  Quarterback Andrew McBride is a transfer student from West Haven.  The 5’10”-165 lb junior is a dual threat, he has thrown for 1,100 yards and rushed for 600 more this year.

There have been many weeks this year where the Hand defense has had to contain an outstanding running back.  So far they have been up to the task.

The weather forecast is not good for game time.  Rain and/or snow is predicted.  So before going out, make sure you check back here for any updates on schedule or venue changes.

Tigers Defeat Guilford 34-13

The Tigers finally got to play a game at the Surf Club Wednesday. The night started with recognition for our seniors and their families.  A US Flag was raised between two pieces of constuction equipment for the playing of the National Anthem.  These backhoes will be working very shortly to demolish the current Strong Field to make way for the Strong Center at the Surf Club.  The Tigers controlled the game from start to finish.  Click here for a complete game re-cap by Dave Phillips for the New Haven Register.

Patch Players of the Week

Offense: CALED EWALD had five catches for 143 yards and two touchdowns.

Defense: Another great defensive effort containing the Guilford option attack.  MATT WALSH seemed to be everywhere.
