Student Artists From The Country School Win At Guilford Fair

Artistic creations made from recycled materials.

Congratulations to youngest artists! Students in last year’s PreSchool, PreKindergarten, and Kindergarten won three “Best in Show” ribbons for their collaborative sculptures at the Guilford Fair.

Working each week with professional artist, art teacher, and TCS parent Stephanie Engstrom, Clark House students made a series of creations throughout the school year. Some were based on artists they studied – such as pop art in the style of Andy Warhol or self-portraits `a la Pablo Picasso – while others were based on themes – African masks, Asian ink drawings, and Native American dream sticks.

The pieces that won the top prizes at the fair were three different sculptures, each made to resemble a famous tower and each made out of recycled materials or found objects. For PreSchool, the model was the Sears Tower;  for PreK, it was the Empire State Building; and for Kindergarten it was the Space Needle in Seattle, WA.
