Shoreline Times: Response To Police In Schools "Overwhelmingly Positive"

Report written in Shoreline Times by Island Avenue School staff member says police viewed as "helpers."

A report written in the Shoreline Times by freelance writer and Island Avenue School staff member Sarah Kyrcz says that the presence of police in schools is being viewed positively by students, parents, staff, and administration.

"[Madison Police] Officer Yorke, along with [Madison Police] Officer Phil Rosati share the responsibility of keeping a close eye on Madison Schools in the wake of last year’s Sandy Hook Elementary School tragedy that took the lives of 20 students and six staff members. While these officers carry on their important safety responsibilities, there is a proposal, being considered by the Board of Education, to hire a School Resource Officer (SRO) who would serve as a law enforcement officer and teacher, alike. Until that proposal is adopted, though, Officer Yorke splits his time between Island, Ryerson Elementary and Brown Middle School, while Officer Rosati concentrates on Jeffrey Elementary, Polson Middle and Daniel Hand High schools."
