Science, Technology, Engineering, And Math In Your Child’s Education

Workshop at The Country School

Join Dr. Laurie Bottiger, Head of School at The Country School, for a talk about the importance of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) in a child’s education. STEM is founded on the idea that schools need to prepare students to address the world’s problems and the belief that scientific discovery and technological innovation will play a critical role.

Bottiger has identified STEM and Design Thinking as priorities at The Country School, where she took over as Head of School in July.

“I am passionate about these disciplines for their ability to engage students in critical thinking and problem solving activities while also fostering creativity, global awareness, and the ability to collaborate with others,” Bottiger said in a prepared release. “All of these qualities will be essential for success in the 21st century.”

Hands-on science and experiential education have been vital components of life at The Country School for many years, and the STEM training invites faculty and students to collaborate in new and creative ways across the curriculum. Before the start of the school year, faculty participated in several STEM brainstorming and training sessions, and parents were invited to sample STEM activities at Back to School Night.

Bottiger will offer two workshops about STEM over lunch on September 28 and October 5. The September workshop begins at 11:30 and the October workshop at 12:30. Each will last one hour. To RSVP or for more information, please call 203-421-3113 or email admission@thecountryschool.org.
