Madison Public Schools Open Monday; Closed Tuesday For Election Day; Elections To Go Forward As Planned ; Homecoming Rescheduled

"Please use your best judgment when assessing your own neighborhood conditions for the safety of your children," when it comes to school on Monday, school superintendent says.

The Madison town clerk says elections will go forward as planned on Tuesday in Madison. Madison Public Schools will be open Monday and closed again on Tuesday, according to the original school schedule, since Brown School is a polling place.

School and town officials felt it was too close to the election to change the polling place and that doing so might cause confusion. They also thought it didn't make sense to close one school, but not all schools.

Madison School Supt. Thomas Scarice made the following announcement Friday:

Madison Public Schools will be open Monday, November 5, 2012

  • We have been assured by CL&P that all of our schools will be fully powered this weekend.
  • The town has assured us that our busses can move safely on the roads.
  • Please use your best judgment when assessing your own neighborhood conditions for the safety of your children.
  • School lunch will be available as usual, menu modifications may be necessary.

The Homecoming Dance has been rescheduled for Saturday, November 10. Tickets will be on sale starting Monday, November 5 through Thursday, November 8 (or tickets sell out) during all lunch waves. Previously purchased tickets will be valid or if necessary, a refund will be issued for previously purchased tickets.
