Island Avenue School Named Connecticut Summer Savers Award Recipient

Elementary School Recognized For 2010 Summer Energy Saving Initiatives

The Madison Public Schools, Island Avenue Elementary School, has been selected as a recipient of the 2011 Connecticut Summer Savers Award. Island Avenue Elementary School and nineteen other Connecticut organizations have been recognized for their 2010 summer energy saving initiatives.

The Connecticut Summer Savers Awards Program acknowledges efforts to save energy, contribute to electric reliability, and preserve Connecticut’s environment by recognizing facilities that reduced electricity consumption by a minimum of 5% from the previous two years without the use of back-up diesel generators.

The Summer Savers Award was developed in 2002 by the Southwest Connecticut Clean Demand Response Pilot Team, a partnership among the Connecticut Office of Policy and Management, and the Departments of Environmental Protection and Public Utility Control. The program was initiated in 2002 to address electricity reliability and air quality concerns in southwestern Connecticut through the use of energy efficiency and clean energy technologies.
