Doreen O'Leary Named Principal Of Island Avenue School

This information was provided by the Madison Board of Education: 

The Board of Education, at its meeting on June 4, 2013, appointed Doreen O’Leary as the Principal of Island Avenue Elementary School, effective July 1, 2013.

Ms. O’Leary will replace Principal Kathy Nutley who will retire from her position at the end of the 2012- 2013 school year.

Ms. O’Leary has worked for the past three years as an Assistant Principal for the Weston Public Schools and has previous experience as a Curriculum Project Manager, Curriculum Associate, and Elementary Teacher for Stamford Public Schools.

Ms. O’Leary received her undergraduate degree in Political Science from Georgetown University and a Master’s Degree in Finance and Accounting from the UCLA Graduate School of Management. Following a career change, Ms. O’Leary received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from Sacred Heart University as well as her Administrator Certification.

Superintendent Scarice stated that the district received a number of well qualified applicants for the posted elementary school principal position.  Ms. O’Leary participated in a very rigorous multi-step interview process with various school and community representatives.

He goes on to state that Ms. O’Leary’s strong background in elementary curriculum along with her overall educational leadership will be a good fit for the Island Avenue School.  In addition, Superintendent Scarice emphasized that Ms. O’Leary brings a proven track record of developing strong relationships with students, staff and parents while fostering a positive school culture.

Board of Education Chair, Debra Frey, commented that Ms. O’Leary will be a welcome new addition at the Island Avenue Elementary School.

Ms. O’Leary is looking forward to the joining the Madison Public Schools and is eager to meet the students, staff and families at Island Avenue Elementary School.  She goes on to say that she is looking forward to becoming a part of the Madison community.

A Meet the Principal Social for all Island Avenue Elementary School parents, students and staff is scheduled for Thursday, June 20th at 4:00 p.m. in the school’s multi-purpose room.
