DHHS Ranked 18th In Connecticut, 733rd Nationally By U.S. News & World Report

Daniel Hand High School is ranked 18th in Connecticut, and 773 nationally by U.S. News & World Report, the national news magazine. 

Guilford High School, in nearby Guilford, CT, was ranked 23rd in Connecticut, and 839th nationally. High schools in Clinton, next door to Madison, and Durham, north of Madison, were not ranked. 

The rankings are based on several factors, including the student/teacher ratio, college readiness, math proficiency, and reading proficiency. 

Daniel Hand High School's student to teacher ratio is 13:1, U.S. News & World Report said, with 1,290 students and 98 teachers. This was about average for Connecticut. DHHS scored better than about 44 percent of schools in Connecticut, where student/teacher ratios range from 3:1 to 18:1, with an average of 13:1. 

In terms of college readiness, DHHS received a ranking of 37.6, which is above average, the news magazine said. The college readiness score is based on the percentage of seniors who tested, and passed, the Advanced Placement, or AP, exams. In Madison at DHHS, 41 percent of seniors were tested, and 37 percent passed. 

DHHS also was above average in both math and reading proficiency, the news magazine said.
