Chessboards, Dead Squids, and Green Pea DNA?

Minds in Motion Saturday Will Connect Learning And The Real World

What do chessboards, dead squids, animal skulls, green split pea DNA, fractals, and junk boxes have in common? They will be among items on display and in use at the Minds in Motion event at R.H. Brown Middle School Saturday in an effort to show children, and their parents, how learning is connected to the real world.

Following the 12:30pm check-in, students in grades K-8 will be offered a wide variety of workshops, lectures, and exhibits. There are sessions being offered for parents and other adults as well. The complete list is offered on the registration form. The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Kathryn Hart, R.H. Brown Middle School assistant principal, said Minds in Motion, being offered in conjunction with the Connecticut Association for the Gifted (CAG), is open to "any student, anybody who has a desire to learn something news, to be engaged in something different on a Saturday afternoon."
