Avon Principal Named Assistant Superintendent

Gail Dahling-Hench will take the spot vacated by Anita Rutlin upon her retirement.

 

The Board of Education, at its meeting on March 19, 2013, appointed Gail Dahling-Hench as the Assistant Superintendent for Madison Public Schools, effective July 1, 2013.

Dahling-Hench will replace Anita Rutlin who will retire from her position at the end of the 2012- 2013 school year.

Dahling-Hench has worked for the past six years as the Principal of the Pine Grove School in Avon, Connecticut, said Madison School Superintendent Thomas Scarice. Dahling-Hench previously served as the Assistant Principal and Supervisor of Language Arts for at the same school, Scarice said. 

Dahling-Hench announced the news to the Pine Grove community in a letter she sent to parents on Wednesday night. She said she will specifically focus on curriculum, instruction and assessment in her new job in Madison.

"It is with mixed emotions that I share the news that this will be my last year at Pine Grove School, Dahling-Hench wrote in the letter she provided to Avon Patch. "The opportunity to contribute to a district level position in the Madison Public Schools of work that will both be challenging and rewarding."

Dahling-Hench received her undergraduate degree in Elementary and Early Childhood Education from Central Connecticut State University.  She also earned her Master’s Degree and 6th Year Degree in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University, along with completing her  Superintendent certification. 

Superintendent Scarice stated that the district received around 35 applications for the posted Assistant Superintendent position.

"Dahling-Hench participated in a very rigorous multi-step interview process with various school and community representatives," he said, adding that Dahling-Hench excelled in all interview phases and that "she will be welcome new addition to the district’s administrative team."

Dahling-Hench is looking forward to the opportunity to move into the  administrative role with the Madison Public Schools and "support the administration and staff in continuing the high level of student learning and achievement."
