Americanism Award Presented to Principal Kathy Nutley

"For her unfailing love of country, eagerness to defend it and undivided allegiance to our flag."

 

Island Avenue School Principal, Kathy Nutley, received the 2012 Americanism Award during the school’s annual Memorial Day assembly. Madison VFW Commander Raymond Hanley presented the award on behalf of the Foreign Wars of the United States, Madison Post 2096. 

Written on the award were the words, “For her unfailing love of country, eagerness to defend it and undivided allegiance to our flag.”

In addition to this presentation, a number of local veterans were treated to patriotic songs, led by Music Teacher Catherine Thompson, and each fourth grade class took on a special project for the day. 

Tracey Soboleski’s class performed the Pledge of Allegiance in American Sign Language.  A special podcast entitled, “What does Memorial Day Mean to You,” was created by Michael Ginsburg’s class. Bobbe Otis’ class presented letters to our soldiers stationed overseas to Donna Padburg, who accepted them on behalf of the Shoreline Community Women’s Club for their “Boxes for Soldiers” project, and the singing of Neil Diamond’s “We’re Coming to America” was performed by Jane Kraus’ students.
