A Blast from the Barn

January Events at the Madison Arts Barn

There is so much going on at The Madison Arts Barn that we decided we needed a blog to keep everyone informed.  I will be updating everyone with details on all the great events going on but for those of you not familiar with the Barn let me take a minute to explain who we are.  The Friends of Madison Youth is a non-profit youth organization, which is run out of the Madison Arts Barn, aiming to act as a creative outlet and venue of expression for local youth. Our mission is to provide a venue for local youth to participate in creative workshops, classes, community projects, concerts, social events, skate jams and much more in a safe, drug and alcohol free environment.  We are run almost solely by a volunteer Board of Directors and local parent volunteers who care passionately about providing wonderful safe programs for our kids!

Our next event is scheduled for this Friday night January 13th.  We are having a dance for 8th graders from 7 - 10 PM.  The high energy DJ and light show from Boppers is always amazing.  The admission is $10 and the concession stand will be open to purchase drinks and snacks.

Monday, January 16th from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM we will have our first Craft/Scrapbooking Night.  If you enjoy scrapbooking bring your supplies and come and join us for some fun.  For the first couple of sessions while we define the direction of the group the admission will be free.

Monday, January 23rd starting at 5:30 PM we are hosting the Madison Challenge's kick off event: The Madison Challenge "Soup-er Bowl".  Local restaurant owners have donated their time and talents to prepare a healthy soup tasting event at the Barn to kick off the challenge.

Tuesday, January 24th is the deadline for submission to the Madison Arts Barn Super Bowl Commercial Competition.  We are collecting commercials made by local youth from 5th through 12th grade to be viewed at our Viewing and Voting party on February 4th from 6 - 8PM.  We will be giving away a $100 cash prize to the creators of three commercials, based on age categories and the winners will have their commercials air on our Local TV channel.

Saturday, January 28th is our Winter Wipe-Out. We will have four two hour sessions were youth can come in and enjoy inflatable obstacle courses, bungee run, double shot basketball, cash cube, jumpin jack arcade, midway games, prizes and so much more.  The first session is open to all ages, with children under 10 needing a paying adult to accompany them, and is from 1 - 3 PM.  The next two sessions are open to 5th and 6th grade students and runs from 3:30 to 5:30 and 6 - 8 PM.  The last session is open to 7th grade students and up and runs from 8:30 - 10:30 PM.  Admission is $15 and includes unlimited access to inflatables, 20 tickets for midway games and one entry in the cash cube jackpot.  Additional tickets may be purchased for midway games and the cash cube.

Monday, January 30th from 6:30 - 8:30 PM we will have another craft/scrapbooking night.
