With Small Turnout, Madison Voters Pass Town/School Budget

Voters approve 1.63 percent increase to $71.8 million for 2012-2013; Budget would increase mil rate of 19.43 about .31 to .37.

 

With only about 11 percent of registered voters showing up at the polls on a rainy Tuesday, the town and school budgets were passed by more than two to one margin of those who showed up to vote.

The town budget passed 1,085 to 380. The school budget passed 1,096 to 369. the breakdown was as follows:

In District 1, in the south end of town, there are 6,950 electors. In District 2, the north end of town, there are 6,254 electors. In addition, 17 property owners, also eligible to vote, turned up at the polls in the south end of town and four property owners eligible to vote turned up in the north end of town.

Voters approved a town budget of $21,217,817 and a school budget of $50,658,827 for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2012 and ending June 30, 2013. The total budget of $71,876,644 for 2012-2013 is a 1.63 percent increase over the 2011-2012 approved budget of $70,721,039.
