That's the good news. More good news is that Monday is supposed to be sunny, with highs around 85 degrees. The bad news? The forecast for July 4th has changed, according to the National Weather Service.

"Independence Day: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 7am. Partly sunny, with a high near 82. Chance of precipitation is 40%. Wednesday Night: A chance of showers and thunderstorms before 9pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 68. Chance of precipitation is 30%."

Update at 6:30 p.m:

As of 6:30 p.m., the NWS has issued a severe thundestorm warning for Madison. The south end of town, so far, has experienced mostly nothing more than dark clouds and threatening thunder.

A long line of cars streamed out of the town's Surf Club earlier in the day, as the weather grew increasingly threatening, but much of the south end of town experienced nothing more than a gentle rain, if that, as of 6:30 p.m.

In North Madison, several Patch readers are reporting from Facebook that they are experiencing a whole lot more than dark clouds and thunder.

"We're getting phase II of the storm!" Deb Boynton O'Connor reported around 6:20 p.m. "Rain, hail, winds!!! Crazy day!!!"

Scott Gyllensten agreed. "Grape sized hail and no power," he said.

The same was true in the MacDougald household.

"Had some pretty good sized hail and no power," Joe MacDougald said. "Regular power just restored a few minutes ago."

Bonnie Cohen Bernal lives close to the MacDougald's, and didn't get any hail, but she too lost power. "We lost power for approximately three hours, it has just been restored," she said around 6:35 p.m.

The Adams household in North Madison is still without power as well. "Power is still out here, hoping we are next in line. Seeing other restored. Thunder and raining still," Kimberly Adams said.

Suzanne Hodge Birks is reporting hail in neighborhoods off of Durham Road by the schools.

Ryan Hanrahan, a meterologist with NBC/WVIT is reporting that the line of late afternoon/early evening storms affected people from Killingworth, on the border of North Madison, to East Haddam. "Pockets of quarater sized hail and gusty, winds, he reported on Twitter at Ryan Hanrahan ‏@ryanhanrahan.

WTNH reports that large portions of the state were hit by the storm, and that many lost power.

WVIT has a picture of golfball-sized hail that fell in Sharon, CT.
