My message to Meyer....... MOLON LABE !!!!!
Kenny January 13, 2013 at 02:50 AM
Any intelligent person knows that criminals will simply steal the weapons they use to commit crimes. Disarming law-abiding citizens will only succeed in making them defenceless against criminal elements, and a tyrannical government. This whole spate of emotional proposals to ban or restrict firearms post-Newtown is simply a reflection of the mental disorder know as "liberalism" of which Senator Meyer is a leading manifestation. Idiotic and misguided "liberal" policies have caused far more deaths than firearms, including the unscientific banning of DDT which resulted in the death of tens of millions worldwide, and CAFE standards for motor vehicles which kill thousands annually in the U.S. alone. The left has no standing to talk about saving lives. No laws restricting or banning firearms will prevent the actions of mentally deranged individuals. That will only be accomplished by identifying such individuals before they can commit their heinous crimes. But the problem is greater than that. We are witnessing a wholesale assault on the moral and spiritual underpinnings of our nation by the left, from the banning of prayer in schools, to the attacks on the 1st amentment by Obamacare, to the removal of religious symbols on public property by a tiny minority of malcontents abetted by the ACLU.
Kenny January 13, 2013 at 03:01 AM
For your information, we don't have "collective liberties" in the United States. We have individual liberties. Collectivism is a concept dear to the heart of communists, socialists, fascists, liberals, and "Progressives," who want to treat Americans as a common herd to be controlled. The Constitution protect individual liberties, and the right to keep and bear arms. Furthermore, "Assault rifles" are not sold in the United States. The extremists are those who support, in an emotional response to a tragedy, and against all logic, facts, and common sense, restrictions or a ban on weapons owned by law-abiding citizens.
Mike Butler January 13, 2013 at 03:22 AM
Oh, it's about mental illness all right, namely the insanity to introduce an idiotic measure like this one. And Rev. Ed knows that it is way too early for April Fool's Day, but the bill's punch line is a howler— "Statement of Purpose: To reduce the use of guns for criminal purposes." No, what it really does is create criminals out of anyone who owns nearly any gun manufactured in the past 150 years. It takes real chutzpah for Rev. Ed to hold his grandstanding dog-and-pony show in a church on Sunday morning; I'm just not sure whether it's because he wants to play reverend or play G-d. He's no dummy—he knows as well as I do that this PR stunt of a bill will never make it out of committee, if it even gets that far. Riddle me this, don'tcha think he did it so that any draconian gun grab they put up afterward, be it mag capacity bans or whatever, will look "generous" or "reasonable" by comparison?

From a friend tonight: "This man has no regard for the Sabbath Day to remember it and keep it holy.... Why does the he agree to speak on a Sunday morning .... ? He makes it pretty hard for the people who want to honor the Lord by worshipping on Sunday .... by taking his place in a church on Sunday talking about guns. What does this tell you....? anything ? This is ridiculous no matter how you look at it. He should not be allowed to get away with it."
Wilson January 13, 2013 at 01:50 PM
I don't want to ban guns from everyone. Just the angry gun-toting extremists who threaten harm against those ho disagree with them. And on the Madison Patch that seems to be about 2/3 of the writers regardless of the topic these days.
Cindy R January 13, 2013 at 02:01 PM
Hey Wilson thats just more hysterical drivel and nonsense from another uninformed gun grabber. Theres no threats on this board, the Patch would not stand for that and either would we. So take your meds and cam down.
Palin Smith January 13, 2013 at 02:08 PM
Do you ever wonder what made people so fearful of the government? Many people are awake and alert. They remember their history lessons. They're not in LaLa Land floating along in some drug-induced stupor. Too many people have been brainwashed into taking too many "legal" drugs. Is it possible that the Federal Government will disarm the people and then impose a totalitarian regime? You bet it is! Every new law passed and enacted erodes more freedom from the people. We're near the breaking point. It's time to reverse the direction and repeal bad laws and Restore more freedom to the people. Our pursuit of happiness is being blocked by high taxes and governments out of control.

I once heard someone say that stats are like a bikini, they show a lot but hide the best. We, the people would be much better served if Legislators, and journalists, touted less stat but had much more common sense.
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:28 PM
Ah yes. Let's ban those "high powered assault weapons" like the AR15, that our soldiers/Marines have been complaining about it's lack of power since the 60's. Another fool who's bought into the hype. Hey Charles, have you been to the FBI's crime website? Maybe you should go and do some research and find that over the past 10 years, less than 4% of murders in the US were carried out with long guns... that includes your "high powered assault rifles" by the way. Twice as many people were murdered with "fist and feet" over the same period. All from the FBI. Facts my friend.... facts.
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:32 PM
Yes... let's ban firearms that are almost never used to commit crimes... and when they are used, a pistol could have easily been used to commit the same crime with about the same effect(VA Tech). It's clear that folks like you have little to no idea about how firearms are employed and the effects that they have. A rifle only gives you a real advantage at range... say 25-50 meters or more... not at close range like inside a building.
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:35 PM
I will agree with MC that there are a very few people who cannot handle the responsibility that freedom entails. But hasn't that always been true in life? A few people that spoil things for millions. As for Charles, he has exposed himself as a true idiot.
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:39 PM
They don't have the guts...
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:41 PM
"Just the angry gun-toting extremists who threaten harm against those who disagree with them. " You do realize that gun crime is not carried out by this group of people correct? ---Yet another person who has failed to put in their due diligence.
Joe Loschiavo January 13, 2013 at 02:44 PM
Exactly. Firearms crime in America is almost exclusively carried out by minority youth(males age 15-25) in urban areas. Those are facts put out by the government. People like Wilson are just running on emotion and have done no research... just like the politicians they vote for. That's why we'll never see any real solutions to our problems.
J F January 13, 2013 at 03:33 PM
Crime has soared in every country that has banned guns. Australia and England are two recent examples. And don't forget the governments in the last century that disarmed their people and what followed after that. Russia and Germany come to mind. Also, according to FBI stats, violent crime has decreased significantly in this country over the past decade. It's unfortunate that an elected official wants to gut the 2nd amendment. The people will be expressing their displeasure at the next election. Meyers will no doubt be voted out as a result of his extremist position on the matter.
Kenny January 13, 2013 at 05:06 PM
There's an old adage that "the best laid plans of mice and idiotic statist "liberal" politicians oft go awry." That applies in spades to Senator Meyer, another tax and spend and control "politician. Voters need to check out this guy's atrocious and radical record on the Yankee Institute's Voter Guide: http://www.yankeeinstitute.org/YankeeVoterGuide12.pdf He scored 1 ouf 10, zero being the worst. He voted for the largest tax increase in state history, to unionize home health care workers, for nearly $300 million in crony capitalist grants, plus $290 to Jackson Labs."creative accounting" to cover the state's budget deficit, and on and on. What do they say: "stupid is as Senator Meyer does." In light of this, his gun proposal is just par for the course. When you lack even a modicum of common sense and intelligence, Katy Bar the Door. What's mnore, his voting record is positively hostile to the interests of his constituents, since he facilities the transfer of our hard-earned income to the big cities where it is squandered on a bloated welfare state.
marc s ruby January 13, 2013 at 06:02 PM
Simply put ., Adam Lanza actions broke a myriad of both Gun Laws and Regular Criminal Laws that were already on the books so why would you add more Laws ??? All about Emotions !!!! Not Facts !!
Palin Smith January 13, 2013 at 07:36 PM
Be patient and you will be able to see Senator Meyer's complete Forum on video later this evening. Oh.....and guess what? Ed brought an illegal weapon (a BB gun) to the forum and the Guilford Police took it away from him after the meeting concluded.
Pem McNerney (Editor) January 13, 2013 at 07:47 PM
Where will the video be posted? Let us know. Thanks! Story just posted about the police being called to the forum. On the front page of madison-ct.patch.com and guilford.patch.com. Have you read the full statute cited by the Connecticut Carry guy?
Jerry Poirier January 13, 2013 at 08:26 PM
What if there is a "bad policeman, or woman" are we going to ban all the police. Or, heaven forbid, we have a ban politician, are we going to ban all of them? So why is everyone so much in a hurry to take away rights from all gun holders? What did we "all" do. I never shot anyone, I never broke any law, I did everything the law required to get my weapons, so why are all of you people wanting to take away one of the things I enjoy doing? It's just because the band wagon is passing by and you want to get on. Enjoy the ride, I'm not getting on. My heart does break for the families of the ones who lost love ones, I have prayed for them often as we all should, but all people should not be punished because of a few.
Jeff Rogers January 13, 2013 at 09:38 PM
First, I'd like to state that Newtown was an absolute tragedy. Adam Lanza broke by my count 41 existing laws. Did those have any impact on his actions? To Senator Meyer, will making the hundreds of thousands of gun owners in this state criminals make this state any safer? Confiscation of once legally acquired property is not freedom. We have an unalienable right to defend ourselves. What aspect of that statement do you not understand? For all the pro-gun supporters, you have a chance to make a statement in a reasonable fashion this coming Saturday at the capital in Hartford at noon. Make a statement by showing up in numbers. If enough of us show up we may have the means to stem off the tidal wave of BS legislation that will not improve the safety of our citizens at all!
Maureen Bennet January 13, 2013 at 10:35 PM
He is under investigation as we speak. Evidently he thinks as a hypocrite elitist he is above the law. An 86 year old women was just arrested for the same thing.

Why not ban moronic politicians like Ed Meyer. He can't find his way out of a paper bag.
Sam January 14, 2013 at 04:45 PM
Only guns that can hold 1 round for Barney Fife. Well that would be a sure victory for tyranny. AN ACT CONCERNING RESTRICTIONS ON GUN USE. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Assembly convened: That the general statutes be amended to establish a class C felony offense, except for certain military and law enforcement personnel and certain gun clubs, for (1) any person or organization to purchase, sell, donate, transport, possess or use any gun except one made to fire a single round, (2) any person to fire a gun containing more than a single round, (3) any person or organization to receive from another state, territory or country a gun made to fire multiple rounds, or (4) any person or organization to purchase, sell, donate or possess a magazine or clip capable of holding more than one round. Statement of Purpose: To reduce the use of guns for criminal purposes. (HAHA that's the funniest part!)
Sam January 14, 2013 at 04:48 PM
Statement of Purpose: To require firearm owners to maintain liability insurance and establish a sales tax on the sale of ammunition at a rate of fifty per cent. ------------------------------------------------------------------- What a creepy state.
