Rain, Rain Go Away? Probably Not Entirely Until Another Day.

So If You're Waiting Until It Clears Up To Go Out And Vote, You Might Want To Just Grab Your Umbrella And Get Going Before it Gets Worse; Drive Carefully And Avoid Driving Through Standing Water; Polls Close At 8pm

Madison had one big downpour today and may get another one, the National Weather Service says. The next one might be accompanied by thunder and lightning, according to the NWS.

So, if you've been waiting for the weather to clear to head out to the polls to , you might want to reconsider and head out now before it gets worse. It might not clear up entirely for another day or so. And, if it does clear up, and you've already discharged your civic obligation to vote, then you can go for a walk or do something else outside.

When you do head out, drive carefully, there is minor local flooding on some roads and on parts of the highway. And there is a flood advisory in effect, according to the National Weather Service.

"Rainfall rates of up to one inch in one hour is possible with these storms. Excessive runoff  ... will cause flooding of urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other drainage areas and low-lying spots," the NWS said. "Do not drive your vehicle into areas where the wather covers the roadway. Most flooding deaths occur in automobiles. Turn around and find another route."

Polls are open until 8 p.m. Surf Club in the south end of town and Brown Middle School in the north.

Late Afternoon: Periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. High near 59. East wind around 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Tonight: Periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Low around 52. East wind between 13 and 15 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Wednesday: Periods of showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Patchy fog between 9am and noon. High near 61. East wind between 10 and 13 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Wednesday Night: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm. Low around 55. East wind around 14 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.

Thursday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 66. East wind around 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

Thursday Night: A chance of showers, mainly before 10pm. Cloudy, with a low around 56. Chance of precipitation is 30%.

Friday: A chance of showers. Cloudy, with a high near 69. Chance of precipitation is 30%.
