Public Utilities Regulatory Authority to Review Power Companies Sandy Response

PURA to review performance of electric and other utilities in preparing for and responding to Storm Sandy.

The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority (PURA) has opened a formal "docket" or review of the performance of "Connecticut’s electric distribution companies and other public service companies in preparing for and responding to Storm Sandy."

Under the rules of so-called Storm Legislation, PURA must review utility company performance "when more than 10 per cent of an electric distribution company’s customers are without service for more than 48 consecutive hours, which was the case during Storm Sandy."

The review won't be limited to the state’s two major electric distribution companies; Connecticut Light and Power Company and United Illuminating, but will include Connecticut Natural Gas Corporation, Yankee Gas Services Company and Southern Connecticut Gas Company.

And according to a press release, "PURA will investigate the state’s telecommunications companies, cable television providers’ and water companies’ performance in a separate proceeding."

From the press release:

PURA’s standard regulatory investigation following major storms, since Storm Gloria in 1985, includes a forensic review of the performance of the electric distribution companies and the gas local distribution companies.  Their performance will be evaluated against the Gas and Electric Company Performance Standards PURA recently approved.  The standards will include:

  • Emergency planning;
  • Preparation for the specific storm;
  • Restoration performance;
  • Plans for mutual assistance and supplemental staff; and
  • Communications with municipal and other public officials.

 PURA invites written and electronic comments from the public, including town officials, regarding their experience with the electric and natural gas utilitycompanies in the aftermath of Storm Sandy.  Comments will be accepted until the close of the administrative record of Docket No. 12-11-07.  Anyone wishing to comment on the docket can do so through public hearings that will be scheduled, the PURA web filing system at www.ct.gov/pura, or by email at dpuc.executivesecretary@po.state.ct.us or by sending written comments to:

Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority

Executive Secretary’s Office

10 Franklin Square,

New Britain, CT 06051

At the conclusion of this investigation the Authority may order specific remedies, compliance filings and orders.  In addition, PURA may determine whether other sanctions are warranted.

Information on this investigation, Docket No. 12-11-07, including all documents and rulings, will be updated continuously and can be found at www.ct.gov/pura.

So I'm not sure what the cover up actually is? Maybe the e-mails that were faked? Funny how that isRead More ok? Such fake outrage for 4 deaths in Benghazi but none for the 4,000 in Iraq. The IRS is an independent entity, not Dem or Republican, Benghazi is a fake FOX news story and Affordable Healthcare has already helped millions. You right wing tea party anti black, anti women, anti hispanic (should we go on?) racists are destroying the Republican party and may not win another national election for a generation.

Owners really need to pick up their dog's waste. It is a major polluter of the Long Island Sound.Read More Whenever your dog drops one and you leave it, think of that fish, lobster, or shellfish you ate from the Sound! Enjoy eating your dog poop bacteria!

I'm so lucky!! For 10 years my dogs have frolicked safely in the back part of Bauer - away from theRead More roads, traffic and homes - closer to the back of the HS. I have never heard any dogs bark or 'yap', never saw a dog run into the gardens and destroy the plots, never saw a dog fight or kids being assaulted and luckily avoided all the poop they are leaving behind although I do dodge the deer pellets. My timing must be stellar to avoid all the bad dogs, their dismal behavior and threats to others. Whew!!

The whole state is tick infested. Luckily, dogs can use a product called Frontline Top Spot or itsRead More cheaper generic equivalent, which completely protects them from ticks and fleas. On the shoreline to Middletown, you should be using it on your dog year round. I once saw a deer tick crawling on SNOW in Madison near the Country School in February. The Lyme vacine is ineffective in most canines and most canines that get Lyme, shake it off in time - unlike humans. Top Spot keeps the ticks off or dead for the humans that pet the dog. Regardless, dogs running on cut grass some distance from woods or taller grass won't encounter many if any ticks. Especially if the outer perimeter of the fence is treated in spring and fall.
