At the height of last summer’s air conditioning season, a large section of north-western Madison experienced several power service interruptions because the electric circuits were severely overloaded. The area included such streets as Overbrook Road, Bartlett Drive, Woodsvale Road, Bradley Corners Road, Race Hill Road, and surrounding areas. As a long term solution, CL&P announced that they would be upgrading the entire circuit (known as the 15D3 circuit) from 8,300 volts to 23,000 volts, thereby tripling the power capacity to the area.
First Selectman Fillmore McPherson today announced that CL&P has informed him that work has commenced and the changeover for a number of customers will start next week (week of October 14). “This is very good news”, said McPherson. “The project is on target, and there should be no more overload problems in this area next summer.”
As each group of customers is changed over, a service interruption of a few hours can be expected. CL&P will be notifying each group in advance. The entire project will be completed by yearend.
