Madison resident Cathy Marsh wrote this letter to Madison Police Commissioner Thom Cartledge, Town Engineer Mike Ott, First Selectman Fillmore McPherson, and the Police Department in the wake of an accident Thursday afternoon between a boy on a skateboard and a car on Green Hill Road.
Dear Mr. Cartledge,
A pedestrian accident happened at the corner of Copse and Green Hill Road on 9/19/13. I know the young man.
What is the procedure for asking the town to consider a traffic study and consider placing two stop signs on Green Hill Road at the intersection of Copse Road?
A light is too expensive!
Sidewalks might never happen!
The area is a nightmare in the morning and throughout dismissal times in the afternoon and then after evening school activities.
While the population has increased from 1975 when I graduated Hand, there have been no upgrades to the road or to signage. Cars run the Copse Road stop signs! There are more kids biking, running, and walking as the student population has increased with having 2 schools in that location. Both Polson and Hand maintain Cross Country teams as well. Drivers are on cell phones which have them distracted!
Our son runs on the Cross Country Team and I want him safe! I have emailed the Cross Country Assistant Coach to have him remind the boys to run together facing traffic and only 2 abreast!
