Not So Fast On Madison Land Deal For the Senior Center

Finance Board votes against spending $303,000 for the land adjacent to the senior center.

The Board of Finance said no and inevitably that is what matters most.

The Madison Board of Selectmen voted last month to spend $303,000 to purchase a half-acre parcel on Bradley Road adjacent to the Senior Center to help expand outdoor senior services, the New Haven Register reported at the time.

The land could be used for bocce, or garden space, the paper reports.

But the Finance Board decided against allocating the money, and the matter is a dead issue, the first selectman confirms, according to the New Haven Register's Sean Carlin.

About 80 residents attended a meeting this week and they were largely against the purchase questioning the need and the costs for the land.

The land will now go back on the market, the Register reports.
