Madison's Newest Park May Get New Name

The town's students will be asked what they think, with the help of an Eagle Scout project.

The Board of Selectmen have decided to take another shot at naming Madison's newest park.

The name Constitution Park, picked by the Board of Selectmen from a list of options, has received some negative feedback in town and the board has been asked to reconsider by the Park Development Committee and others.

Selectman Joe MacDougald said Monday night that they would do just that by seeking an Eagle Scout to create a project that will seek input from students, "the future of Madison." The students will come up with some suggestions, working within parameters set by the Board of Selectmen. And then the Board of Selectmen would use that list to come up with a name.

Selectman Joan Walker questioned some of the parameters being set, such as not allowing the name "Griswold," or not allowing the park to be named after anyone recently deceased.

But she agreed that it was a good idea to take another shot at coming up with a name.

"It is lays to rest [the name] Constitution Park, this is a thing I am in favor of," she said.
