Moore, Geisler, Kelty Win ZBA In Only Contested Race In This Year's Elections

Unofficial election results from Tuesday's municipal elections; Low extremely turnout with only 15.8 percent of registered voters casting a vote.

In the sole contested race in Madison's municipal elections Tuesday, Ned Moore (D), Sally Geisler (R), and Thomas Kelty (R) were named winners in the contest for Zoning Board of Appeals.

Incumbent Ned Moore came up with 1,133 votes; Sally Geisler, who will be a newcomer to the board with 1,339; and Thomas Kelty, who had served as a Zoning Board of Appeals alternate, with 1,243. Incumbent Joel Marcus (D) came up just short with 1,049 votes.

Turnout was extremely low when compared to past municipal elections, with only 15.9 percent of registered voters casting a vote. That compares with 36.29 percent in 2001; 33.05 in 2003; 33.9 percent in 2005; 41.18 in 2007; and 40.27 percent in 2009.

There are 13,182 registered voters in town, including 6,913 in District 1 and 6,269 in District 2. On Tuesday, 1,189 voters cast a vote in District 1, and 846 cast a vote in District 2. A total of 49 absentee ballots were cast.

Most of the people nominated for spots on the ballots during the and the nominating convention ran unopposed.

This includes First Selectman, which is the first time in recent history that this has happened.

The Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) is the board that is charged with granting exceptions to and variances from the town's zoning regulations. There are three seats and four people who ran.

Below are the unofficial results of the Madison municipal elections in 2011. D1 are votes from District 1 in the south of town, D2 are results from District 2 in the north end of town, A are absentee ballots. Officials at town hall said there were 30 write-in votes, but none that were contenders.
