Heavy Rainfall Expected Monday, Feb. 27; Could Lead To Local Flooding, National Weather Service Says

Flood Watch In Effect Until Monday Night

The National Weather Service says a flood watch is in effect from Monday morning through late Monday night. Total rainfall amounts could be one to two inches, with higher amounts in some areas, the NWS said.

"Rain will develop after midnight and continue into the early afternoon Monday ahead of a warm front," the NWS said. "A second area of rain with scattered thunderstorms is then forecast to move in from the southwest in the afternoon and early evening. The rainfall combined with the nearly saturated grounds from the one to two inches of rainfall that fell on Friday will exacerbate the flood threat.

"In addition, the recent stretch of mild weather and rain has allowed for the formation of ice jams. The buildup of water behind these ice jams can result in flooding upstream as well as downstream if they give way."
