After Snowy Tuesday, Wednesday Should Bring Some Sun To Madison

Wednesday and Thursday should be mostly sunny.

Town and state road crews were out trying to keep up with another winter storm Tuesday and Tuesday evening. But the National Weather Service says Wednesday and Thursday could bring some sunny weather.

Madison First Selectman Fillmore McPherson said town crews were out all day keeping up with the storm, but that roads started to get slick in the evening as the storm picked up pace. Forecasters predicted some of the worst weather might occur just in time for the evening rush hour.

Conditions also were deteriorating in other parts of the state and on the state's highways. Around 5 p.m., WFSB.com was reporting that all southbound lanes on I-95 in Groton between exits 89 and 88 were closed after a two-car crash. In Avon, Route 44 was closed at Avon Mountain around 4:15 p.m. due to poor driving conditions.

Tuesday evening, Metro North reported that westbound New Haven Line Customers were experiencing scattered delays of approximately 15 minutes due to weather-related equipment issues.

"I understand that in the last hour or so, it's gotten a little slick," McPherson said around 4:30 p.m. "We were well ahead of it until this last flurry started."

McPherson said the town is using a new pre-treatment and treatment method designed to keep the snow from binding to the asphalt, which was working well until the heavier snow started to fall. At that point, he said, it just became a matter of the plows trying to keep up with the increasing snowfall amounts.

McPherson said crews would stay out as long as necessary to keep up with the snow storm.

The National Weather Service says Wednesday and Thursday should bring some sun. Here is the forecast for the rest of the week:
