Winners Announced In Fire Prevention Poster Contest!

Congratulations Eliza, Grace, Annabelle, Kylie, Alexis, Sarah, Kylie, Jessica, Madeline, Kayla!

Fire Marshal DeBurra announced today the following local winners for this year's Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest.

Grade 4 winners:

  • 1st place – Eliza Beccia – Island Ave. Elementary School; 
  • 2nd place – Grace Henderson – Island Ave. Elementary School; 
  • 3rd place – Annabelle Boudreau – Island Ave. Elementary School; 
  • 4th place – Kylie Ameika – Jeffrey Elementary School;
  • 5th place – Alexis Lariviere – Jeffrey Elementary School. 

Grade 5 winners:

  • 1st place – Sarah Minuit – Our Lady of Mercy School; 
  • 2nd place – Kylie Scarpellino – R. H. Brown Middle School; 
  • 3rd place – Jessica Murphy – R. H. Brown Middle School; 
  • 4th place – Madeleine Henderson – R. H. Brown Middle School; 
  • 5th place – Kayla Serafin – R. H. Brown  Middle School.

 The winning students were honored at an awards ceremony held on February 26, 2013 at the Town Campus. Each First place winner received a certificate and a $50 gift card to R.J. Julia Bookseller provided by the Fire Marshal’s Office. The 2nd through 5th place winners received a certificate and a $25 gift card to R.J. Julia Bookseller provided by Madison Hose Company # 1, Inc., North Madison Volunteer Fire Company, Madison Police Union and the Madison Ambulance Association. Each organization donated two $25 gift cards.

 The first place winning posters for the fourth and fifth grade students are submitted for judging on the county level. Two county winners from each grade will be chosen and a statewide winner will be chosen from these posters. The state winner will be used to promote fire prevention throughout the State of Connecticut.

All winning posters on the county level will be exhibited in various areas around the State, including the State Capitol during the month of October. The county winners will be awarded $200 savings bonds and the state winner will receive a $1,000 savings bond.

This statewide Connecticut Fire Prevention Poster Contest is a cooperative effort of the Office of State Fire Marshal, the Connecticut Fire Marshals' Association, Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection, Connecticut Fire Chief's Association, Connecticut State Board of Education, and the Connecticut FAIR Plan (representing the insurance industry).

Fire Marshal DeBurra thanks the following individuals and civic organizations for their assistance with this contest: Madison Hose Company # 1, Inc., North Madison Volunteer Fire Company, Madison Police Union and the Madison Ambulance Association for donating the gift cards.

Thanks are also given to all the fourth and fifth grade students and the Staff from Our Lady of Mercy School, K. H. Ryerson Elementary School, Jeffrey Elementary School, and R. H. Brown Middle School for their enthusiastic participation in this important Connecticut Fire Prevention Awareness Program.
