Weekend Thefts Prompt Police Reminder; Lock Your Cars, Lock Your Doors

Several Items Taken From Cars In Area of Fairview Drive and Copse Road

When you live in a small town, it can be tempting to leave the doors to your house and your car unlocked.

Don't be tempted, Madison police say.

Overnight Saturday, three cars in the area of Fairview Drive and Copse Road had several items stolen, including a GPS and other electronic equipment, police said. While hardly a crime wave, police said it was a reminder that even otherwise safe neighborhoods can sometimes be hit by a thief looking for an easy target.

"Usually, if the car is locked, they move on," said Madison Police Captain Jonathan Pardo. "We encourage everyone to lock your car doors, even if it is in the driveway. Lock your car, lock your house, lock everything. Don't make it easy for them."
