Suspect Arrested in Durham Gas Station Robbery

Police arrested the suspect, who is from Old Saybrook, Wednesday evening.

State police have arrested an Old Saybrook man in connection to a December robbery of a Durham gas station.

Eric J. Griswold, 37, was taken into custody around 8:45 p.m. on Wednesday after officers from the State Police Troop F barracks in Westbrook tracked him down to a Super 8 Motel, located at 37 Spencer Plain Road in Old Saybrook.

Police said Griswold surrendered to police without incident and was taken into custody on a warrant issued by Middlesex Superior Court. According to a police press release, Griswold is accused of robbing the Valero gas station, located at 384 Main St. in Durham, on Dec. 19.

Two men had reportedly entered the gas station, and one of them implied he had a weapon, police said at the time. They made off with an undisclosed amount of money from the cash register and no one was injured.

It's unclear whether the second person is still listed as a suspect. Patch has reached out to Lt. J. Paul Vance for clarification.

According to the warrant, Griswold, who's listed address is Room 18 at the Super 8 motel, was charged with second-degree robbery, a conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny and a conspiracy to commit sixth-degree larceny.

He was held on a $150,000 court-set surety bond and is due is Middlesex Superior Court Thursday.

The Old Saybrook and Clinton police departments assisted the state police in this case.
