Police ID Pedestrian Struck and Killed by a Jeep in Durham
Police confirm that Wanda Jacques-Gill, 61, was struck and killed by a vehicle driven by 39-year-old William Zanks. The incident happened on Route 79.
State police have identified the woman who was struck and killed by a Jeep Wednesday night on Route 79 in Durham as Wanda Jacques-Gill.
According to a police report issued Thursday, Jacques-Gill, 61, of Durham, was in the roadway on Madison Road, near the intersection with Sand Hill Road, when she was struck by just before 6 p.m.

The driver of the Jeep, William Zanks, 39, also a Durham resident, was not injured, police said.
Jacques-Gill was rushed to Middlesex Hospital where she was pronounced dead. State police said her family has been notified.

According to online reports, Jacques-Gill was reportedly a part of the Durham Animal Response Team (DART) in 2011.
No charges have been filed in the case. The incident remains under investigation.
