One Car Accident Closes Route 80 Near Dream Lake [Video]

Accident Friday around 5:30 p.m. shuts down major road for more than a half hour. Driver walks away with no injuries, but with badly damaged car. Accident under investigation.

 

A one car accident on Route 80 near Dream Lake shut down Route 80 for more than a half hour around 5:30 p.m. Friday. Emergency officials at the scene, around 6 p.m. said they hoped to have the road opened soon.

Initial reports indicate that the driver was not injured. An ambulance that responded to the scene pulled away slowly, with no lights flashing.

Emergency responders said it was too early Friday night to determine the cause of the accident, although one said investigators were looking into whether fatigue could have been a factor. The name of the driver was not released.

Several area residents said they were relieved to hear that initial reports pointed towards no injuries. They said they still had vivid memories of many other accidents in that area, including some that resulted in fatalities.

In December 2009, a driver was killed in an accident nearby and several neighbors said they worried, when they saw this accident, that it would be as bad.

But the driver involved in the accident Friday appeared to be standing by the side of his car, waiting for it to be towed away. "He's very, very lucky" said one neighbor.
