Middletown Police Speaking to "Several Individuals" in Hit and Run Case

Middletown Police today refuted some reports that an arrest is imminent in the hit-and-run death of Clinton teen Cailyn Bassett. Meanwhile, the 15-year-old who was struck and killed in Middletown on Dec. 7 will be laid to rest on Saturday at the Church of The Open Door in Clinton, according to her obituary.
Middletown Police have collected evidence from a vehicle they suspect was involved in Friday night’s fatal hit-and-run accident that took the life of the Morgan School sophomore as she walked along Saybrook Road near Coe Avenue. “At this time, the investigation is moving forward toward a conclusion,” Lt. Heather Desmond said in a press release Tuesday, adding police, “cannot provide a timeframe as to when an arrest will be forthcoming. We have a vehicle of interest in the case and have several individuals that we are speaking with at this time.”

Cailyn, who was born in New Haven, according to her obituary, is survived by her mother and father, two sisters, two brothers, and a number of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. She attended the Middletown High School vocational agricultural program in Middletown for a short while, according to Legacy.com, was a talented writer and artist, loved reading and hoped someday to become a veterinarian and writer.
