Madison Man Arrested On Guilford Green, Taken For Evaluation

The Guilford PD responded to the town green for numerous 911 calls concerning a male who was reportedly screaming and chasing children.

From the Guilford Police Department:

The Guilford Police responded to the area of the town green [around 3:45 Wednesday] for numerous 911 calls concerning a male who was reportedly screaming, yelling, threatening and chasing children who were gathered on the green after early dismissal from school.

Upon arrival, the male was located and detained.

Numerous witnesses came forward and reported that the male had inferred he had a gun and made gestures to mimic loading and pointing a pistol. The objects used were determined to be a cellphone and silver pen type tire gauge, which the witnesses described as a gun barrel.

It was also reported that the male stated to the children that there was possibly a bomb in his backpack. No firearms nor explosives were found on him or in the area.

The man, age 50, was arrested for Threatening 1st Degree / Risk of Injury to a Minor / Breach of Peace. He was released and sent to Yale/New Haven Hospital for an evaluation.
