Madison Hose Co. No. 1 Responds To Overturned Dump Truck On 1-95N

Accident, at about 4:32 p.m., closes one lane of the highway. DOT called to deal with stone and dirt on highway. Highway reopened around 6:45 p.m.

 

responded to the scene of an overturned dump truck around 4:32 p.m. Monday. 

The accident occured on I-95 Northbound between Exits 59 and 61.

The state Department of Transportation said that it was a tri-axle dump truck that hit the center divider and overturned, at one point blocking all lanes, with only the left shoulder getting by. 

Madison Hose Co. No. 1 Captain Bob Kyttle said as of 5 p.m. the dump truck was still on its side and that one lane of traffic was open.

"It was carrying a full load of stone and dirt. That's covering the highway now," he said. "We're waiting for the DOT [state Department of Transportation] to arrive and clean up. There are no apparent injuries at this time." 

Kyttle said the highway was reopened around 6:45 p.m. 

The dump truck accident in Madison around 4:32 p.m. was one of two on I-95 late Monday. Branford Patch reported via its Twitter feed around 6:30 p.m. that: "Motor vehicle accident on I95S at exit 56; 2 injured. Branford Fire on scene. Update to come. Brush fire confirmed earlier this afternoon..."

The state Department of Transportation estimated the Branford accident would take an hour or less to clear.
