Lightning Strike May Have Caused Killingworth House Fire; Madison Volunteer Firefighters Provide Mutual Aid

Firefighters have responded to a fire at 24 Cow Pen Hill Road in Killingworth.

 

Firefighters from Killingworth and surrounding towns responded to the scene of a possible lightning strike and house fire at the height of a thunderstorm Monday morning at 24 Cow Pen Hill Road

According to scanner chatter, the fire broke out in the garage of the two-and-a-half story home.

@GeorgeRoelofsen, a Killingworth volunteer firefighter and camerman for News 8, tweeted the following at 8:37 a.m.: Structure Fire, Killingworth...24 Cow Pen Hill Rd. Lightening strike. First arriving unit reports flames showing.

Firefighers from both Haddam and Madison responded to a call for mutual aid. From Madison, the responded, along with the , the volunteer fire company in the south end of Madison.

"We brought a ladder truck and a tanker truck and went to work for them," said Madison Hose Co. No. 1 Captain Robert Kyttle.

There were no reports of injuries and it has not been confirmed that the cause of the fire was a lightning strike.
